Our Certifications

We subscribe to the most stringent definition of organic. We use only foods grown without synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilizers, that have not been irradiated or exposed to industrial solvents or food additives. Every Theo ingredient has been verified as organic (except for items where this is not possible, such as salt, or where such verification is very elusive, such as honey) and we work with farmers and suppliers to ensure these standards are maintained. In addition, organic certification prohibits the use of GMOs, including use of GMO seeds or GMO feed for livestock.  

Our work with farmers supports their ability to utilize sustainable growing practices that benefit both our fragile environmental ecosystem and all of the people inhabiting our planet. We provide training on integrated pest management which protects farmers and the environment from damaging pesticides, biodiverse farming which provides habitat for many species such as migratory birds, and reforestation which helps offset worldwide air pollution and has a positive impact on global warming.

All organic foods are non-GMO. The USDA Organic seal tells you a product meets strict organic standards, including prohibiting the use of any GMO product. The Non-GMO barn is a reminder that when you buy organic certified products, you are also buying non-GMO products.

Fair Trade is an international system including certifications that guarantee producers have been paid a price that enables positive economic growth for the individual and the region. The social benefits of Fair Trade certification are far reaching. Farmers participating in the fair trade system are better able to provide their families with adequate nutrition and access to healthcare and education, ultimately opening up a world of opportunities. Fair trade enables farmers to take their livelihoods to the next level through fair pricing while participating in greater social change through the Fair Trade organization.

Theo Chocolate is certified Fair for Life by Ecocert. We are proud of our Fair for Life certification because it goes beyond traditional fair trade that certifies ethical trade for ingredients. Fair for Life additionally verifies we have respectful relationships with partners, fair working conditions in our manufacturing, and that the environment is respected across our full supply chain.
